Smile Axona: My experiences with the new med for Alzheimer's!!

I am very excited and want to share with all our new Med for AD. On April 1, 2009, 11 days ago, we started my husband on AXONA. I am happy to report that he has more energy than he has had in a long time, and I let him drive our little pickup across town by himself to work at our other place twice for about 4 hrs. each day.
I am praying this is the answer we have been waiting for to stop AD in its tracks. Accera.com is the place to start looking for it. Most Dr.'s have the info. It became available on March 1, 2009.

Default New Alzheimers drug...

WOW, you had noticeable improvement in less than 2 weeks? ! What stage would your loved one be in? Stages link below:

Let us know the progress. Is it very expensive? Medicare approved?

Default New Med for AD

Ms. Misty,

Now that your husband has been using Axona for about a month, is he still getting better? Does he take Axona with any other AD medicine or by itself? What stage AD is your husband in?

The reason for the questions is that my husband is in the late moderate stage of AD and he is taking Namenda and Aricept. All he wants to do is sit on the couch and sleep. (Most people here go by the 7 stages but our doctor said he goes by mild, moderate & severe.)

For everyone else: I very seldom write anything or respond to anything but I read all the topics and I get very encourgaged by how brave and loving everyone is. I so glad to have this "support & insight".

Thanks everyone & God Bless You

Default Flavoring Axona

On this topic, thought people might be interested in this Nurse Dina thread on adding flavors to Axona.

Question Axona Side Effects

My wife, Carol, has been taking Axona for about four days. Unfortunately, it seems to make her sick to her stomach. Does anyone know if there is an adjustment period for Axona? I might give her half a packet for a few days, as a trial.

I paid $99.00 for a 30 day supply of Axona. My insurance didn't cover it. However, I read I might get coverage if the doctor will submit a form stating that the Axona is necessary or important for his treatment of my wife.

Question Axona

My mother started using Axona about 10 days ago, and she is experiencing the same side effect: nausea. Her neurologist told us there were no side effects, but apparently there are for some people. I don't want her to stop taking the medicine, but I know she doesn't want to feel sick every day either.

I'd like to know if this reaction will improve or disappear, too.

Perhaps marijuana, known for its anti-nausea properties, would be of help

Default Using Axona

12/14/2009 Hi Hatieboo

Personally, I would not use Marijuana as suggested by "Woser". Last I heard, the U.S. Federal law still has Marijuana as an illegal substance. There are a limited number of States that have approved using Marijuana for medical purposes. But, since the Federal Law still has Marijuana as illegal, there is a big "no man's land" out there as how law enforcement officials would handle someone caught using Marijuana even for medical purposes.

There is a special Board which covers people dealing with side-effects of Axona. It is "POPULAR TOPICS" and is one of the Boards listed. Try checking out the following:

POPULAR TOPICS AND AXONA

You may also want to check with your Mother's doctor about what you could do to help your Mother deal with the nausea. I do not have a medical field background. But, would any of the drugs given people to deal with the nausea from certain cancer treatments maybe help your Mother? Her doctor may be able to help you.

My Mom is too far along in her Alzheimer's dementia to try Axona. I hope you are able to find something to help your Mother and her nausea.
